Hmm, I think I would have noticed a short 1 train when I did my "ride all the lines" railfan trip shortly before I left. But I don't remember if I rode the 1 during the rush hour or after (I started around 7:30 AM and was finished around 2 PM or so).

I had written the itinerary up on a piece of paper, I know it made it out to L. A., but eventually it got lost (didn't help that I moved 4 times while in Southern California)

I'm going to try to do another one of those the next time I am in NY, but unlike 76, I will ride each line only once (in 76, I rode at least one line twice). I will also include shuttles, which I didn't in 1976. And unlike 1976, where the entire trip was within fare control, I will take a lunch break at STL (arrive on a Q, leave on a D). Nathans of course! :)

The trick is, in order to not duplicate any lines, is to start and end at a multi-line station. That was going to be Sutphin/Archer (start on the E, end on the J (or Z as it might be, BTW, I consider the J and Z as one line, so I will ride one or the other, not both (not like this is anything official))
I picked Sutphin, because I thought I might be staying with someone in Queens Village, so I would LIRR to/from Jamaica. Now, that probably won't be the case, but I might still LIRR from wherever.
