Actually, my first ride on rapid transit was on the MFSE Market and Frankford cars in Philly back in the 1940's. I'll take the air compressors and hum of the DC traction motors any day over the noisy videos that I've seen of NYC's "state-of-the-art" subway cars.Yeah and I rode the old IRT cars on the Lex, the BMT Standards and the early IND cars as well. They may have been slower than the latest Japanese junk on the rails today, but they were certainly alot quieter and more comfortable particularly the Standards. |
