Well at least 6239 survived to be included in the museum fleet :)

I didn't know that R-15s were still operating as lead motors in the spring of 1973. I was living in Illinois at that time, but I returned to NYC each summer. I remember seeing (and riding in at least once) consists with an R-12/14 or 15 as a lead motor, but by the summer of 1973, I no longer saw this, and didn't until I moved away from NYC in August 1976. Unless the correct date is 1978 instead of 1973? I know that the 12s/14s/152s were modified by that time to operate as lead motors.
