The distinction between light rail and streetcar is not an easy one to makeAfter riding Stadtbahns in Germany, the pre-metro in Brussels, and the networks in Portland, San Jose, Seattle, San Francisco, and Boston, I'd argue that things are murkier for the older networks as there isn't that much that separates the B/C/D branches of the Green Line and Muni Metro from the Subway Surface in Philadelphia, but Portland Streetcar is basically a stripped down version of light rail with curvature, station design, and signalling differences. |
