I suggested such a service some time ago using the LIRR from Brooklyn to Far Rockaway and Hempstead only.These two routes would use new 65ft rail cars for flexibility... hybrid technology to enable on the fly voltage changes(600 to 750 plus) Air bag suspension for platform height differentials,ATO,ATC,ATS...a mixed suburban/rapid transit seating interior. A tunnel connection could be built in ENY between either Fulton st or Broadway Bklyn lines..or to the Brighton using unused bell mouths..enabling thru routing to NYCT lines within the CBD and beyond. |
