I think Citi Bike was losing money even before this winter's harsh weather. The issue was that the investors thought there would be many more daily or weekly riders (where the most profit is made) than yearly riders (who pay once for unlimited use, like I do). What happened is that many many more people signed up for the yearly (unlimited) membership and there were far fewer occasional riders than expected. The "reward" for the yearly riders in 2015 is a stuff increase in the membership fee - from about $100 to %150, I think. Nevertheless, I'm still renewing my membership.--Mark |
