admittedly, it was a shot in the dark, without due consideration of the requirements of maintaining a "sub-chat" discussion area. re ferries: my own personal experience was, riding the staten island ferry, gradually acquiring knowledge of, primarily, the history of the north river ferries of all the railroads terminating at the west side of the river, lamenting their loss (and my never having an interest in them when the last ones still ran), and being amazed and overjoyed when lower manhattan-hoboken service resumed. it was like, an el train fan seeing the third ave el starting up again.
