Actually, the IRT’s doors lined up just fine based on the operation and since it wasn’t anticipated that the World’s Fair cars would not be operated into So/Fy there was no reason to worry about the door placement on those cars. As for other stations with gap fillers, there were actually 2 on the mainline and T/Sq on the shuttle although the so called gap fillers at T/Sq are actually below the platform level and effectively only will prevent passengers from falling all the way to track level. The other stations to have gap fillers were Bkln Br which were taken out of service when the platforms were extended north off the curve and 14 St. When the N/B platform was extended south off the curve, the gap fillers at the very north end of the station were taken out of service since trains no longer stooped opposite them. On the S/B side, the gap fillers on the lcl tk were only for the end doors since the center doors were close to the platform like they were at So/Fy inner. On the S/B exp tk, the gap fillers were only for the center doors since the end doors were close enough to the platform edge for safe boarding and alighting. Even after the R-types entered Lex Av exp service, since the curve was not as severe as So/Fy, the end doors were close enough to the platform to make boarding safe. Probably because most of the cars operating into So/Fy were Hi-Vs, many of which allowed for independent operation of the end and center doors the IRT didn’t feel the necessity to install gap fillers for the center doors there. At 14 St with Lo-Vs operating almost exclusively on the exp lines on which all side doors opened the IRT felt it was necessary to install the gap fillers. After MUDC was installed on increasing numbers of Hi-Vs and later when Lo-Vs operated into So/Fy C/Rs would manually lock out the center doors on the cars at their immediate operation position and be assisted by platform C/Rs at Rector St on the west side and Bwlg Grn on the east side who boarded trains at their respective stations to lock out the center doors on the other cars, rode around the loop and unlocked the center door lvg So/Fy and detraining back at their original locations.
