Which one will go to thew Smithsonian ?To my knowledge no one has come forward to preserve any of the 1k cars either in an operating museum or for stack display. The historical value of the 1k cars has been diminished somewhat because their DC traction motors and cam controls have been upgraded to AC induction motors and power electronics. If I were King, I'd get that telescopic aerospace junk off the tracks ASAP. If I had my way all of the aluminum cars in WMATA's fleet would be converted into beverage cans and replace with stainless steel cars. I would make it impossible for collisions to occur instead of putting effort into making the cars more survivable to collisions. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |
