The old way around the gapping issue in NYP was to use overhead third rail, which of course got decommissioned when the overhead wire was put in. Amtrak runs all of its single-diesel Genesis IIs with the locomotive on the front. In GCT, when Metro-North push trains get stuck in a gap, they turn the prime mover on. |
