Middleton doesn't mention any others but his caption said: "Before the automobile hearse became an acceptable mode of transportation to the last resting place, dignified funeral cars such as the Milwaukee Electric's No. 1000 were a common sight on interurban and street railway lines, and an on-line cemetery was considered a definite asset."A Google Image search for 'interurban funeral car' brings up 2-3 accurate hits, especially GreatThirdRail.org re Chicago and Tramz.com where Mexico City is credited with 28 such cars! 'Funeral streetcar' brings up some more including the Descanso of Cajon Pass fame. Bill |
