When I was a kid & NY Connecting RR trains would go thru my neighborhood in Queens at about 50mph, we'd put pennies on the rail by the 37th Ave & B'Way overpass to get em flattened out, retrieve as many as we could find & file them down to be the size of quarters for the low tech vending machines of the day. Usually one in ten would work so we'd net an average of a 15 cent profit! |
