The Poughkeepsie bridge really isn't useful any longer for railroad. That was actually part of the New Haven, not NYC and the west end went to a yard that no longer exists and was replaced by houses. Same for the other side. From that height, the work required to connect up to the routes below it, as well as having to buy back all that residential land would be prohibitive.And as to Gonerail, that funding was nowhere near enough before it went away so it could be cut up and sold for pennies to the big operators. |
