Milford, CT woman dies after being dragged by Metro-North train |

Posted by Gold_12th on Sat Dec 20 14:42:24 2014 A woman from Milford was killed this week when she was caught between two Metro-North Railroad cars and pulled along the platform at Grand Central Terminal and then down onto the tracks, according to Metro-North.Joan M. Dehm, 62, suffered serious injury to her pelvis, as well as trauma, according to Metro-North spokesman Aaron Donovan. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital by New York Fire Department personnel, where she was pronounced dead. “We are investigating what led her to be dragged,” he said. “The train was moving. It’s not clear to me if she was seeking to board that particular train.” The accident occurred at 8:38 p.m. Donovan said she was found underneath the platform after the train had left. He did not believe she was run over by the train’s wheels. The New Haven Line train was stopped at the 125th Street station for inspection and another train sent to pick up the passengers. No other injuries were reported. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are investigating the incident. While the cause of this accident is unknown, Metro-North has been beset by several derailings and other accidents that have caused the deaths of six passengers and crew. U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said “This very unfortunate incident requires immediate investigation. I will be contacting Metro-North, specifically (President) Joe Giulietti, to ask for a prompt and complete inquiry. “This incident is one more reason that (Metro-North’s) safety culture needs review and reform top to bottom, along with policy and practices that can be a matter of life or death to passengers and workers.” Blumenthal also mentioned in an emailed statement that there had been a recent sideswipe incident in which no one was injured. http://www.nhregister.com/general-news/20141219/milford-woman-dies-after-being-dragged-by-metro-north-train |
