Today, I found online a most outstanding pic of the South Ferry elevated terminal, with both the Staten island and Municipal ("Maritime") Ferry Buildings behind it. If I ever develop the skills to post it online, I'll share it here. I'd date the picture from 1910 or so, as both buildings were built in 1909, the Els are running electric trains, but there's only 1 motor vehicle I can see- even the delivery wagons are being horse-drawn.

Anyhow, this leads to a question- does anyone know if the South Ferry (Whitehall) building, which appears to be the other, unconnected half of the surviving Maritime building, was the same one that lasted until the 1991 fire?- but just modified and uglified in the early 1950s, or if they rebuilt it at the time?

Thanks!! And Happy Thanksgiving!
