Granted estimates are high, but we are talking city Subway service not LIRR service however.The report was for LIRR service to Penn Sta. That's the basis for the low price tag. If you are talking about subway service, then the link to the QB line will cost over $1 billion extra. Moreover the service will be local along QB because the express tracks are already maxed out at 30 tph. The total number of passengers crossing between Queens and Manhattan on a typical 2013 weekday was 967,973. This includes the 42nd, 53rd, 60th and 63rd St tunnels in both directions. These 5 new stations, only one of which does not overlap an existing station, is supposed to generate generate 51% of new traffic. |
