A big issue is that the Clifton shops are set up for 75' cars, not 60's: the hydraulic lifts and truck changing equipment are all based on 75' car truck centers. Moving this equipment for 60's would be difficult since it involves digging a new +20' deep pit for the equipment in a shop that is already pretty cramped. Maybe this will be addressed with the upcoming Sandy work, I'm not sure but it would make sense. The door equipment on any cars coming to Staten Island would also need to be modified for the shorter platforms at some of the stations. |
