Low platforms can have all those problems and more.

the nature of a high level platform, the drop it incudes, is a natural deterrent to everyone save the drunk and the stupid. and just the same, on a low platform, the can wander right in front of an oncoming train, which makes it all the more reason why higher speeds should demand higher platforms. You are abosulty comfortable with MBTA stations with no barrier right next to the tracks where the Acela is doing 125 to 150...
