Old New York Central RR Question |
|
Posted by Andy on Sat Oct 25 20:38:54 2014 The Amtrak Empire trains today use tracks north of Penn Station that were once part of the New York Central Railroad. The line was primarily used by freight trains going back to the 19th century. The portion south of 30th Street is today's High Line Park. The tracks north of 30th Street were equipped with third rail for a good part of the 20th century. Does anyone know when the third rail was installed, and when it was removed? The answer to the "removed" question is probably sometime in the 1950s but even that may be wrong. Thanks to all who provide information. |
