Why would Hyland, as many on this board like to refer to, want to put the privates out of business, by tearing down the Jerome Avenue elevated line, or any other transit line/extension that was paid with NYC funds under the dual contracts?Put the private transit companies out of business to recapture the NYC paid for subway lines, possibly yes. As what eventually happened in 1940 under unification. When the BMT was supposedly approached to run what became know as the Independent Subway System, why the IND was never labeled the ISS after unification is only a guess, BMT management turned down the offer because the fare was to remained at five cents. |
