The Concourse line opened to 205th St on 7/01/1933. Yes, there was supposed to be a continuation of the line via Burke Ave, but, like the IND Utica expansion (south of Kings Hwy), it was to be elevated, east of 205th. When opposition mounted to the sections being elevated, both proposals were shelved. The last part of the NYW&B officially closed at 12:01AM, 01/01/38. After Unification, the City bought the Dyre line in 1940. And, yes, they used the funds that had not been spent on Burke Ave. I strongly suggest that you buy, "The Routes Not Taken", by Joseph B. Raskin, to get the entire story about Burke Ave and the Concourse line! |
