Didn't some of those cars continue to run on the 3rd Av el in the Bronx after 1964, or were they other types?Victor: In typical sub-chat fashion I am going to say that the answer to your question is no and yes. The farewell train consisted of all Lo-V Low Voltage Motors, no Steinways. Five Lo-VM's were set aside for rehabilitation as the museum train. This train (5292,5290,5443,5466,5483) . This train made various fan trips around the system over the next few years. Service on the 3rd Avenue El at the time was provided by Steinway Motors, World's Fair Steinway Motors and Lo-V Trailers. At some point in 1968 (I would like to say April but I do not have the exact date.) the five museum Lo-V Motors were assigned to the el due to the Steinway Motors aging out. They remained here until all the pre-war cars were pulled from service in November 1969. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
