Initially, the original IND 8th Avenue line from 207th Street to Chambers Street-Hudson Terminal did not have the green with white lettering entrance signs during the first year or so of service operation. Instead, they had temporary signs with stencil or painted lettering done on a background or wall, and with the "Independent System" at the heading.

181st Street Station, IND 8th Avenue Line; 5/13/2005.

Then, as the extensions started to open up during the calendar 1933, all of the signs were eventually installed later on all the routes operating around that time frame, including the main 8th Avenue line. In my archives, I have a color slide taken towards the original entrance for the Court Square station of the Crosstown line, and whose entry sign that read clearly included for trains going to "Roosevelt Avenue - Queens" and "Nassau Ave. - B'klyn".
