The neighborhoods were changing, ridership had been in a decline, and there was nothing to replace the "Q" cars. Plus, that crazy transfer at Bridge/Jay. Back in 1953, the City removed the Grand/Myrtle station because the stairways were shared by the single eastbound Lexington platform. Rather than shell out $50,000 to redo the stairs, the City cited a declining use of the Myrtle line's Grand Ave station, even with Pratt Institute there. As I said above, I'm surprised Myrtle Ave lasted till the end of 1969! |
