Since WMATA runs on standard gauge track, there's always the possibilty (albeit slim) of a 1000 being preserved on static display somewhere. OTOH, BART with their wide gauge...

My only hope is that BART will preserve one car of each type (A/B/C/C2) as a historic train. I'm not that optimistic. SF Muni is very good at preserving historic cars (and actually running them on the F-Market & Wharves). BART, being around 60 years younger than Muni, who knows?
