The R46 has the advantage of the scratch free wall panels, whereas NYCT made a big mistake car appearance wise in not "specing" the same in the R68/68A. To the person who does not know subway equipment, the R46 still looks a lot newer (aged well) than the R68/68A (aged poorly).

Of course, the G lost the R46 when the line got re-assigned to CIYD where there are no R46's.

The only advantage of a R68/68A is a 4 car unit has 3 air compressors---so if 1 goes kaput you're probably still OK other than the train will charge slower. With the R46 on the G, only the A cars had a compressor, so you were in trouble if one went bad. Right before they were taken off the G, a group of R46's got a compressor installed into one the B cars in each unit. 6197 was the first one. I don't know if all 4 car units were ultimately so modified. I hope so since 4 car R46's remain on the midnight A and 24/7 Rock Park shuttles.
