Yep ... I've heard a bunch of interesting and contradictory things, that the tunnel dose go back a couple of blocks, that there was at least one "lane" that had a bit of track on it and a little less third rail and was used for a short while, I've heard that it was backfilled and that there was a "widening" of the space back there but no actual "station," plus I've heard the other yarns about it going WAY back and was filled in because the contractors weren't supposed to build it, yada yada.

Whether real or imagined, folklore or buffoonery, enjoyment or irritant, I'll take good old 76th street over so many other alternatives that rear their head here from time to time. And Joe Brennan is about as serious a historian as I've ever seen and even HE had some fun with it. Hovercraft to New Rochelle against the wall, watch the flashing portal please. :)
