And if there was any silver lining to all of this, the fiasco in Jamaica was probably the straw that broke the camel's back of el removal fever that took hold in the 1930's. It's noteworthy that there has been no further service eliminations since the closing of the Jamaica el. The MTA's attempt to close the Franklin Ave shuttle was a failure, the first time community pressure actually stymied the city's attempts to abandon a service they did not want to invest in. |
