The most vivid memory I have is watching them demolishing the Sutphin Blvd station in the summer of 1978, while my family was waiting for the Q44 bus to the Bronx Zoo. Still remember the chainsaws chopping off the catwalks on the track, and the construction workers taking their lunch breaks sitting on the edge of the 168th St bound platform. It was traumatic because, being 6 I had no understanding of what was going on. I thought they were tearing the whole J train down. |
