No, the Conduit system was for Brooklyn.

In Merrick, the street to the north of the LIRR tracks is "Brooklyn Avenue" and it was said that it is the route of an old water conduit.

Merrick never got its water from that conduit, AFIK, but had its own pumps and water towers. We paid a bill to the "New York Water Company" but AFIK it was a local company with a grandiose name. Merrick was (and is) an unincorporated village and so could not do street, water or sewer projects on its own.
