The last time the City was paid for an el demolition was for the 6th Ave el, in 1939. The City, thinking it would get the same deal for the 10.24 mile section of the Ninth Ave el, asked for bids. No one wanted it for scrap, so Albert Volk, a LaGuardia supporter, got the demolition job. |
