Posted by tunnel rat on Thu Aug 18 08:21:02 2005, in response to Re: 76th Street (Was: Re: posting), posted by Douce Man on Thu Aug 18 01:55:52 2005. douce man,the 4 tracks dip down and end at a concrete wallat about grant and pitkin.the original plan was to have 4tracks to the lirr at aqueduct race track and have 2 tracks ramp up to the lirr r.o.w.the 2 other tracks were to go down to linden blvd.to 229st.laurelton.the 1939 plan was revised to cut back the line to 106st along side of aqueduct race track.to you t.a. types out there,neet time your in euclid tower look at the model board.it states that the 4 tracks were to go to 76st. and crossbay blvd.there is a signal relay room just past the model board.when you walk thru the door look to your left.on the wall is a glass enclosed 1947 orignal signal schmatic showing all the signals to the concrete wall.it also shows that beyound the wall the tunnel continues and states that the signals beyound the wall were to be put in by the contractor at a later date.this is a significant piece of the puzzle that is 76st. steve. |
