while I'm not sure what brake valve was on that cab car, The emergency brake valve on the cab car would have dumped the air in the brake pipe and knocked the propulsion back to idle as soon as the emergency reduction propagated back to the locomotive and triggered the Pneumatic Control Switch (PCS)
