This may sound like a rant, but I have met at least three types of archivists, librarians, or curators:
1) Those who are really interested in the contents of the files, but may not be trained in "library science."
2) Those professionals who assiduouisly follow the generalized and current theories of their profession, but are only mildly interested in the contents of collections.
3) Those whose chief aim is cull from the collection items that have not been looked at in the past year or two.
---
I would prefer competent people, enthusiastic about the collection, and willing to keep stuff that might be of interest fifty or eighty years from now.
---
We also have problems with people too young to know offhand what IRT means or who write books about railroads they never rode. That leads to the identification of photos miles away from the location (River Avenue vs. Marble Hill).
