But wasn't the 6th Avenue tunnels already in the planning stages as the 8th Ave lines were being built? The 6th Ave lines were definitely not an afterthought. In fact, the 6th and 8th Ave tunnels pretty much duplicated what the 6th Ave el did. So it wouldn't be reaching to say that the demise of the el was something they factored in.Also, was there ever a bus terminal at the Manhattan end of the Holland Tunnel? |
