Final average salaries appear to be going down there. More times than not it seems they are not short on T/Os, although it is the worst shortages since I left in 2002. But it is usually a short lived cycle. They go on hiring binges in the beginning of the year and choke back in the later holiday months so as to save on the vacation payrolls where one would need the FULL year of service to qualify for the extra week at time of pick. I'm only 46 now so even though I'd have 26 years in now and be working main shop with D.S. or the Dolly, I can retire with better benefits in Railroad Retirement, not including the 457K I pay for with the pay differential between the Port and NYCT. Per Diem work is great for married nurses who already have health benefits as the cash flow is generally higher. I wonder if anyone will sue for discrimination if they aren't invited back for their brake handles |
