Building a highway where there is low density encourages sprawl. And I have met people in some of these low density areas - they actively fight attempts to pave their roads and improve access, because more people would come to their towns. It's not the individuals living in the town who benefit from it so much as real estate developers.As for the other stuff, maintenance and upkeep are important, but once you start turning 6 lane highways into 8 (for distances longer than a few miles), obviously there is density somewhere and something else needs to be looked at. |
