Correct but there were 2 problems with the swap to the A line. The first was that it didn't solve the problem. Once a northbound "A" train hits Grant Ave., the train is then in a tunnel all the way to 207th St and back - over 2 hours. The A/C would likely shut down by then. The other was economic. For every R-46 train that went to the "C", they were replaced by 10 R-32s, in essence increasing car demand by 25%. This increased mileage and maintenance costs while reducing spare factors. The swap with the "J" line is one car for one car. No increases in miles or maintenance and no reductions in spares. |
