Posted by Edwards! on Sat Jun 22 00:23:44 2013, in response to Re: (7) line extension update photos 6/2013, posted by Steve B-8AVEXP on Fri Jun 21 23:11:29 2013. thats right..it was suppose to be a TRIBORO SUBWAY line[Lower Broadway from Bklyn to Union Square,then under Lexington Avenue to the Pelham and Woodlawn branches.]the IRT bitched so much about needing a east side route..instead of just taking the 3rd ave subway option via the Manhattan Bridge...they wanted the Lex.[3rd ave was even built into the Bowery st station tunnel box..]yet plans for it were dropped. The lower Bway line,meanwhile,was redesigned. it stayed under Bway to times square..then 7th ave..with the intentions of heading to upper Manhattan under Central Park West..joining another BMT line from 8th avenue...along with a branch line to Queens under 60th st. there were so many plans for the BWAY LINE..LEXINGTON LINE..and their various branches..hardly any of them came to life outside of what we have now. |
