The protect engines have a coupler on the west end matching the M-7 coupler. Move riders to the first four cars, and uncouple them from the 5th and 6th cars. Pull east and you are out of the tunnel with locomotives that can handle LIRR signals. Maybe drop the passengers at Woodside. For years, the protect job sat at Harold during rush hours to unplug the tunnel by running in, coupling and hauling east.--- If we have the story correct, one truck on the 6th car was derailed. --- If the protect engines were not available, I'm glad they were able to get a NJT train shoved into the tunnel, so the passengers could walk through and be brought somewhere. |
