Considering that the trains came to stop 2/3's of a car length past the worst impact point, I think the eastbound really lost speed once it dug into the ballast and the westbound's engineer got the air on quickly. They were doing 70 before the accident but were likely down to a moderate speed by the time the corners hit.Bill |
