Another theory is that the idea was abandoned after construction began due to the difficulty of retrofitting the Fulton St portion of the line for 3 track service. It's so narrow at some points that the typical structure would not work. A flyover would have been expensive. Another reason would be that capacity from Canarsie and Myrtle Ave would have limited the ability to exploit such an express service.Maybe there were plans for an express track only if the line was extended further east, past 168th St, with a long express run between Jamaica and ENY. |
