With the MP54, they deferred maintenance, like the TA did with 34 year old R-1's when the R38's were expected and were late, so non-rebuilt Standards from 1917 were brought in to the rescue. Dr Ronan also ordered a lot of rare, spare parts discarded around 1969. So the fleet collapsed en masse, regardless of whether the car was built in 1908, 1930, or got a rebuild in 1955. Some of the better ones in the 4100 and 4900 series could have run another 5 years.

Now we have 22 year old M-6's and 40 year old M-2's getting scrapped concurrently.
