Which grade crossing?The only one I can think of is the former connector between the SIR and NEC going across Linden Avenue. That's certainly never going to be rebuilt. The rest of the SIR has been rebuilt, though. Union County "ran out of funds" to rebuild the Rahway Valley RR from Cranford to Summit, which was intended to allow the Morristown & Erie a connection between their home rails and the SIR. NIMBYs galore wrote into local newspapers claiming that the Rahway Valley would be host to those evil double-stack long freights of the kind that ply the Lehigh Line, too . . . |
