To be fair the MTA had a lot of responsibilities at the time. It wasn't only the subway they had to worry about. They had the bus system, LIRR, the bridges and tunnels, the MTA even was the operator of Republic Airport on Long Island. I think the Myrtle and 3rd Ave els were last on the list, but even performing basic maintenance at the stations couldn't hurt.

I was wondering, if the el reopened later in 1973 could they have without Clairmont Parkway station or was the el structure so badly damaged by the fire that it was unsafe for trains to run past the station?
