It was a sad day indeed. I took my very first rapid transit ride on the 3rd Avenue El when it still ran down to Manhattan. I had to be there for the end and I did ride the ERA fantrip on that Sunday. As a footnote to the above I might add that when the excursion train left from Grand Central 5483 was part of the consist as well. She experienced some mechanical problems enroute and had to be set out at the Westchester Square Yard. We made two round trips on the El. On the last trip the whistle was blowing almost continuously and local residents waved to use from their windows. An old friend was passing from the scene and this was his wake.Larry, RedbirdR33 |
