Another hot-button topic raised during the forum was parking permits at the Merrick and Bellmore stations.One one hand, it's a bit annoying to end up having to go to Mineola* because there are no spots before 2 PM at your home station unless you want the lot that becomes a "rapist gallery" at night, but I don't want to pay for a parking permit for the cars at my home when I want to use the railroad once a month on a weekday. FWIW, I get the strange feeling that the non-resident cars are from East Meadow and Levittown which cannot park at Hicksville and wouldn't want to park at Westbury, and other, um, South Shore residents from Suffolk County opting to use the rush hour trains that make only Wantagh-Bellmore-Merrick-Penn Station runs in 30 minutes or so. Merrick and Bellmore, are, IIRC, the only free lots without any residency requirements and Bellmore has the bonus of being off Newbridge Road and the Wantagh Parkway... *All of the spots at Bellmore are *gone* by 7:45 AM. After that, you might as well pay for a taxi or go kiss & ride. |
