A worker became trapped in an accident at the 2nd Avenue subway construction site.

The worker is trapped in mud in an underground trench at 2nd Avenue and East 95th Street.

The Fire Department says they are preparing for a high angle rescue at the site. A Con Ed vacuum truck has been requested to the scene.

The worker is chest deep in mud but has been secured. Firefighters are removing debris from around him using hand tools and a backhoe.

A stokes basket has been lowered to the rescue scene, which is believed to be 50 feet below street level.

Right now this is a second alarm response. The fire department has 25 units and 106 firefighters, as well as several rescue squads at the scene.

It is still unclear how long it will be before the worker can be removed. He is breathing and responding to rescuers. There is a doctor down there with him.

The accident happened at around 8:30 p.m.

2nd Avenue is closed from 93rd to 95th Streets.

It's not clear how seriously injured the worker is.
