You always used to be able to get a bus-to-bus transfer with a single-ride ticket. You generally had to ask the bus driver (on the first bus) for a transfer ticket. I doubt that they have eliminated that possibility, there certainly was no announcement to that effect. So "no transfers included" probably should say "no bus-to-subway or subway-to-bus transfers included".

The single-ride tickets have never made much sense. Is there still two-ride ($5.00) minimum to get a Metrocard? With the new $1.00 per card fee, there is even less reason than ever to have such a minimum. Maybe there isn't: $5.00 is now the minimum to get the 5% bonus. Since they put it that way, it suggests that Metrocards can be bought with less on them, there just won't be a bonus. So now someone without a Metrocard could get a SingleRide card for $2.75 (that doesn't allow bus/subway transfers) or a Metrocard (with $2.50 on it) good for one ride, including such a transfer, for $3.50.
