Seawater is hell and corruption on all things mechanical. In my early years with EMS, I remember the city playing with an amphibious rescue craft called a LARC, which could be driven on city streets and sailed in the water like any ship. But for every hour in the water, some poor guy had four hours of cleaning out the saltwater gunk from every working part of the boat meant for use on land.

Unlike fresh water, which dries out with mo real effect, seawater gets in there and stays there, much to the chagrin of those who operate subways here.
